The unintended expat blogger behind RiverEmberValley

Hello, I am Lucas
I work as a project manager. I am a parent. An expat residing in Madrid, Spain.
A few years ago, I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term contract gradually became a new chapter of life overseas.
How It Started
Moving to Spain wasn’t in the original plan. Like many international moves, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far more significant.
The early months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, routines, and expectations. Daily chores seemed more tangled than expected.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and plenty of on-the-job learning. Gradually, routines settled in. We found places that fit our needs, connected with other families, and began shaping something that felt secure.
Why I Built RiverEmberValley
Most online guidance tended to be corporate relocation tips or shallow sightseeing content. What was lacking was a candid, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to fill that gap with practical advice drawn from real life in Spain.
What This Site Is All About (And What It Isn't)
This site is:
- Hands-on experience from living in Spain
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated when there is a real change
This site isn't:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- Not a sponsored review platform
- Not a generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our stay in Spain goes on, and the learning journey continues. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll keep recording what we find.
If you have questions about family life in Madrid or anywhere in Spain, please feel free to get in touch.
Best regards,
Lucas
